Sahar Ghannam was graduated in 1983 from Alexandria University Egypt with a Master Degree of Dermatology, Venereology & Andrology in 1986. She received a PhD in 1994 with a thesis on chronological aging, photo aging and ionizing radiation effects on the skin in 1995 a board examination was passed to successfully achieve Doctorate Degree of Dermatology Venereology & Andrology. During that time she upscaled in the University positions from a teacher assistant until Associate Professor in Alexandria University. Since that time, she has been interested in aging and anti-aging procedures. She is a Board Member of the International Society of Dermatologic surgery ISDS and the executive director of the International Peeling Society IPS. She is the co- author of the Chemical Peel chapter in the 3rd edition of “Surgery of the Skin” published by Elsevier. He has published over 20 scientific papers. She is the Editorial Advisory Board of the Indian Journal of Dermatology and the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology. She travels a lot lecturing and teaching but also learning.

A graduate of Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Lattouf is an innovative cardiac surgeon with substantial experience in complex cardiac procedures including heart transplantation, laser re-vascularization, left ventricular reduction procedures, thoracoscopic minimally invasive interventional therapy, and mitral valve repair. Throughout a career of more than three decades, Dr. Lattouf has been a vital contributor to Emory's distinguished national reputation in CT surgery. In 1988, he was part of the team that performed Georgia's first domino heart transplant; in 1999, he helped implant the state's first Abiomed biventricular assist system to support the failing heart of a patient suffering from post-cardiotomy shock; and in 2001, he performed the world's first totally endoscopic left ventricular resynchronization. In 2017, Dr. Lattouf was named medical director of the cardiothoracic surgical partnership established between Navicent Health in Macon, GA, and Emory Healthcare. In that role, Dr. Lattouf serves as vice president for cardiac innovation and outreach. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Lattouf trained Navicent Health physicians on the new minimally invasive Convergent procedure to treat patients suffering from longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). The Convergent surgery combines the expertise of a cardiac electrophysiologist and a CT surgeon, and involves the ablation of the inside and outside of the heart to restore regular rhythm. Dr. Lattouf is engaged in active clinical and laboratory research and development work in genetic engineering and stimulated angiogenesis and has received various patents.

Dr Brakovsky completed her medical studies in Poland in 1984 and on coming to South Africa went to Gauteng where she eventually gained her FCS in Plastic Surgery in 2005. She joined our department in November 2007 as a consultant after having worked at Madunsa in Pretoria as acting head for two years. She has a special interest in breast surgery and perforator flap surgery. She has private rooms at St Augustine’s Hospital where she sees private patients.

Dr. Yoshiya Toyoda after completing his training in cardiac surgery at Kobe University in Japan, he spent several years at Harvard Medical School where he conducted basic research in the area of myocardial protection during surgically induced ischemia-reperfusion. After completing his clinical cardiac surgical training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Toyoda completed an advanced fellowship in cardiopulmonary transplantation and ventricular assist devices at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He joined the University of Pittsburgh as a cardiothoracic surgeon in 2006 and has headed the division of cardiothoracic transplantation from 2008 to 2011 when the University of Pittsburgh established one of the world's most successful cardiothoracic transplant programs. Since 2008, under his leadership, the program has led the world in number of lung transplants, and has also performed increasing numbers of heart transplants and ventricular assist device insertions. Dr. Toyoda then became Professor of Surgery, Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support, Surgical Director of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Vice Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Temple University in Philadelphia. Over the past eight years, Dr. Toyoda has performed more than 450 heart, lung and heart-lung transplants. He pioneered the antero-axillary approach in lung transplantation, a new minimally invasive form of surgery that avoids complications of the standard double-lung transplant procedure and the prophylactic tricuspid valve repair in heart transplantation, which prevents primary graft failure due to right ventricular failure. He has also developed numerous innovative surgical techniques to further improve clinical outcomes in the area of cardiothoracic surgery.

Rene J. Alvarez, Jr., MD, FACC, FAHA, FACP, Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), Vice Chief of Cardiology, and Medical Director of the Heart Failure / Cardiac Transplantation Program at Temple University Hospital (TUH), has been named President-Elect of the American Heart Association’s Southeastern Pennsylvania Board of Directors. Dr. Alvarez will serve a two-year term as President of the organizations beginning July 1, 2017. “Dr. Alvarez has shown great passion and deep commitment to the American Heart Association. We are honored to work with him and look forward to his leadership on the SEPA Board,” says Laura Hollot, President and Executive Director of the Philadelphia American Heart Association.
